ACT clutch pricing

Daemongar: Another “choice” quote from DSMtuners:WHY IS ANYONE WITH AWD EVEN CONSIDERING ANY ACT BELOW THE 2600?

Jesus CHRIST people. That's like using only one square of toilet paper after a bad case of diarreah.

Daemongar: Wow. The President/CTO of ACT posted a few times in a thread about Gabor's feramic clutches.

Daemongar: Interesting thing to note: ACT takes a stock pressure plate and modifies it for more clamping force, just like Gabor with his setup. The discs appear to be where most of the “custom” work of these clutches is at.

Daemongar: Nifty! Shepherd runs a the same clutch disc as me (street disc, the full-face one), but with a 3200lb pressure plate.

Daemongar: hmmm, interesting. Exedy makes the stock pressure plate that ACT modifies (and that comes stock in the car).

Daemongar: Heh, Gabor and the president of ACT are getting into a pretty good argument over how ACT clutches warp.

Daemongar: (flywheel surface replacement is $50 for a Fidanza. Add to that a new clutch disc when yours wears out for about $50 as well, and it's $100 to do a clutch job after you go to a ACT 2600/Fidanza combo, assuming you haven't warped the pressure plate…not bad.)

LightningEclips: I hear a lot about ACT 2600 doing hell on a stock shift fork. Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll try and get back to you all with the answer to the problem. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92967&highlight=ACT+clutch

96AWDsm: What clutch to get? My stock clutch has recently taken a crap on me . My mods are pretty few but more will be added soon. I was thinking of getting the ACT 2600 with the six pluck but I am not sure if that would be too much for every day driving. This is my daily driver, but like I said I do plan on doing more mods so should I get the 2600 with the six pluck or a street disk, or the 2100 or what. Looking for suggestions I don't have that much knowledge of clutchs. Any info would help thanks.

leet: 2600 with a street disc will be perfect. It is what 90% of AWD DSMers use.

scuRRed whiTey: New Time With My Laser (act 2600)

So there was a little arguement weather my laser was bone stock or not. Ok, its not BONE stock. But it is stock. I have no bolt ons. I have the basic DIY free mods…AIR FILTER, MBC, HACK AIR CAN. With that setup at around 10-12psi i ran a 13.9….

Over this last week I installed my clutch ACT 2600 clutch with 2 of my friends. It only took 3 hours. I broke it in and got use to it.

Today at ATCO raceway in NJ there were “Test and Tune” runs. I went up and took a look. For me getting there so late they were pissed but didnt make me pay .

I ran the first to runs and blew off my intercooler piping. I hate that shit. My boost was creeping up to 14psi and fallin off. I got the intercooler issue settled and settled down and started runnin some times.

14.0…13.9…13.8…and finally a 13.7 @ 95mph LOL

Yes the ACT 2600 does no mercy for my drivetrain but launched me to a 60 footer of “1.75”…and after i got through second the boost just bled right off to 11psi. I soon figured out that my boost controller was leaking through the screw. OH WELL

Now i know im gonna get some shit talkers so i decided to upload the photo of the timeslip.

Are you going to believe its mine? most likely not. Are you gonna still talk shitt even though i provided a way of proof? Yes.

Before it starts…..if you dont really have anythign good to say then just dont post.

13.762 @ 95.30 mph (14-10psi bad boost leak somewheres or the exhaust is just choking the hell out of my car) 60ft time - 1.769 1/8m time- 8.6 seconds 1/8m trap- 77.74

Mods- Air filter, boost controller, hacked air can. Bone stock exhaust(thats why theres no top end,i will be removing the cat soon and seeing if i can shave off a good .4 tenths of a second)

1fast97gsx: I had an act 2600 on my 97 gsx and after 8000 miles it's already toast. I want to get the same pressure plate again, but put in a puck style disk rather than the street disk. Anyone know what the absolute CHEAPEST place is to but this stuff ( I need the friction surface for a fidanza flywheel too ) because the best I have found so far was at roadraceengineering which is where I got this stuff in the first place. They charge $395 for the clutch and then another $50 for the friction surface. I am looking at around 400 whp, so would I be best off with this combo or should I just jump up to a 2900? I have actually seen that the 2900s are cheaper … maybe for lack in demand? Thanks. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91314&highlight=ACT+clutch

RippinGSX: I have a CFDF and my opinion is it's a POS!! I broke it in properly and always let it cool between passes but it started slipping after about 6 months. ACT 2600 for an AWD DSM is the only clutch that is proven time and time again. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10562&highlight=exedy+clutch

From the AMS website: http://www.automotosports.com/dsm_drivetrain.asp

The ACT 2100 clutch is designed to hold 322 lb/ft of torque, and is sufficient for cars going as fast as low 12's. It combines the 2100 lb pressure plate with an ACT street disc to bring you a clutch that holds more power than stock and has a easy to drive feel on the street.

The ACT 2600 clutch is designed to hold 400 lb/ft of torque and is recommended for cars looking to go into the 11's and even the 10's. The pressure plate in this kit is considerably heavier than stock and is not for the faint of heart.

Combined with the ACT organic street disc the 2600 is a bit grabbier than the 2100, and can also cause more stress on the drive train. This clutch is not recommended for those with 3 bolt rear ends. (Unless you plan to replace it with a 4 bolt)
