How to pick a dog from a litter
pick him up, is he tolerant of being held?
roll him over on his back, is he trusting when in a vulnerable position?
is he the most agressive? (he will be more agressive and need a firm hand as he grows up)
is he timid? (he will always be fearful (antisocial) and may bite out of fear)
clap your hands, is he fearful of the noise?
is he tolerant of being handled in sensitive areas? (under ears, belly, paws, mouth)
check eyes for discharge
check ears for brown “gunk” and/or bad smell (can be cleared up with medication)
check skin, hair should be smooth and growth should be even
listen to breathing -shouldn't cough or whistle (may just be a cold, but be wary in dogs with pushed-in noses, it could indicate a nasal deformity)
look at stomach, it should not be distended (bloated), this most likely indicates worms (can be cleared up with medicine)
