On New Year's Eve 2005, Ed and I were headed home after visiting my parents. It was about 9:30pm and we were approaching a green light at an intersection where we intended to turn left when we noticed a Chevy Lumina stalled in the intersection. Ed stopped at the light to wait for the guy to move his car. The light turned yellow, then red, then the traffic on the other street got a green and the people in the right lane started moving around the stalled car. The people in the left lane were blocked by him.
We watched as the kid finally got his car started, then he darted forward trying to get out of the way of the lane he was blocking. Well, the people moving in the right lane had no idea he was coming, so as soon as he pulled out he was hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser. The Lumina then came directly at us and hit us head-on.
Steam rose from the engine bay, the hood was crumpled up... We knew it'd have to be towed from there. Ed got out as the other 2 drivers started yelling at each other. I dialed 911 on my cellphone.
The other drivers calmed down and eventually the police came, our car was towed, and the kid driving the car that originally stalled was hauled off in the cop car (I have no idea why).
We borrowed my Mom's car to get home, then the next day we called AAA and reported the accident. We had Collision Centers of America tow the car from Park Forest (where the accident occurred) to Naperville (where they are located). It took them almost a month to fix it, during which we had to rent a car for about $25/day. In the end, it looks as good as new and we appreciate it a whole lot more after driving that stupid Kia Rio rental... >:P
